A New Day, a New Donut Business

Some of you have become family to us.  We see you every week, we know your names: Mary, Mari, John, Michelle, Owen, Kimberly, Kad, Emily, Jim, Richard, Shimone, Judith, Kitty.  So, we know that you may take personally a decision that is truly about business.  We have ascertained that the farmers markets are not the best outlet for our products.  We need wider distribution to make the numbers work.  And so it is with a sadness for the loss of seeing your faces and hearing about your weeks that we say good-bye to the markets.  It is not good-bye for our products though.  We are hard at work (okay- we will be next week after we take a few days off) re-writing our business plan to attract investors for our packaged food company.  Daring Donuts is a nationally trade-mark protected brand and we plan to grow it.  You have asked when you might see our products in your favorite store and we have said that we were not sure.  Now we are sure that that is what we are striving to achieve.  We want you to be able to walk into your local natural food store or favorite coffee stop and find our friendly little cape-sportin donut guy waving at you.  It might be a bit of a slog to get him there, but we are gonna give it a Daring try.  Don’t be strangers, we still want to hear about your weeks.  We will be sure to post updates on our progress. Know that you are missed, but not forgotten.

Like the pictures of our donuts (like this one) and just can’t make it to the U-District Market on Saturday mornings to have some real donuts and other gluten-free and vegan goodies? You’re in luck! We’ve applied for and have been accepted at several more markets for the summer session, both in Seattle and on the Eastside.

In Seattle, we’ll be in the U-District, Broadway, and Magnolia markets (to get more information on these markets, visit http://www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org/.)

On the Eastside, we’ll be in the Carnation (http://carnationfarmersmarket.org), Sammamish (http://www.sammammishfarmersmarket.org), and Juanita Beach (Kirkland) (http://www.kirklandwa.gov/depart/parks/Parks/Juanita_Friday_Market.htm) markets.

We look forward to seeing many new (and familiar) faces at these new markets, and please let us know if you have other great ideas at info@daringdonuts.com.

And Now, We make More than Donuts!

A new direction, including more than just donuts!

Gentle readers, you’ve come to know by now that we love donuts. We love glazed donuts (chocolate, carrot cake, and old-fashioned), and we love cinnamon-sugar donuts. You might also know that we are rather fond of other baked goods as well. In our baking, we’ve tried granola, Cinnamon Rolls, breads, and more.

So, it’s coming near time to broaden our definition of the Daring Crew to include all of our delectable comestibles. Hence, we’re going to be changing our name and logo to incorporate the Daring Darlings Crew as well.

So, welcome to the Daring Darlings Bakery! We hope you’ll stay awhile, and we will definitely still be making Daring Donuts. You’ll see some web site updates and other changes soon, and we’re excited!

The Chocolate in Our Donuts is Special

The yummy chocolate

We like Chocolate (we’re guessing you do too.) You may have noticed that there are many different kinds of chocolate on the market, from the varieties you see in the supermarket to other, more exotic versions of the yummy stuff. We want you to know that we buy very special chocolate to use in Daring Donuts.

We use exclusively Dagoba Organic Chocolate to add chocolate yumminess to our donuts. Why should you care? As far as we can tell, Dagoba is the ONLY organic, fairly traded cocoa that is NOT cross-contaminated with any allergens.  In the WHOLE WORLD.

Why do you want Organic chocolate? There are lots of reasons why, including that it’s better for you, the planet, and the growers. How is fair-trade chocolate better? Dagoba explains it here. So the next time you think about how yummy our Chocolate Donuts are, think also about how the chocolate is special, and how you are helping sustain a business that is both tasty and good for the world.

Our newest Daring creation is gluten-free, vegan granola (yum!) We think we’ve created a scrumptious mix of crunchy granola that you can feel good about buying (and that tastes great.)

Because we care about the environment, we also want to give you the opportunity to help us recycle! If you buy a pound of granola and return the jar, we’ll give you $1 on your next order of granola! You can find Daring Donuts at the U-District Market in Seattle most Saturdays, and we’d love to hear more about your ideas (including any new flavors of granola you think we should be cooking up.)

Yum! We’re making some new flavors these days, and our favorite are definitely the glazed donuts. We’ve made chocolate-glazed, cardamom-glazed (a fan favorite), and we’re experimenting with other gluten-free, vegan flavors for our donuts as well.

As always, our donuts are gluten-free, vegan, soy and nut and corn-free, but definitely not taste-free. We’d love for you to try them out and look forward to hearing from you. We’re at the U-District Farmer’s Market in Seattle just about every Saturday from 9-2. If you’re interested in a special order, please email us at info@daringdonuts.com.
